Join the MNAAP Early Childhood Work Group for its September Lunch and Learn focused on autism screening and referral.

On Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 12:15 – 1 p.m. via Zoom, the work group will host Nicole Berning, Autism Policy Lead, from the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS).

The average length of time between a family’s initial concern about their child’s development and receiving a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can be more than two years. With prevalence rates as high as 1 in 36 in MN, it is imperative that pediatricians follow best practice guidance for screening, identification and referral. This webinar will provide resources and training on developmental milestones and key indicators of ASD so you can feel confident in recognizing and diagnosing ASD in young children. We will also provide resources to facilitate more efficient and collaborative referrals.

Objectives:

1.    Outline steps to increase early and equitable autism identification and access to intervention.

2.    Explore strategies to increase engagement and follow-up with families.

3.    Share resources found on the Minnesota Autism Resource Portal website.
